SSMS Recommended

The following application server recommendations show changes based on tag count with the dataPARC Historian.

These recommendations assume 2 years of data storage. If sub second data is being collected, triple the disk space recommendations.

Deployments can be completed on local devices, virtual machines, or managed services (AWS, Azure, etc.). For virtual machine hosts, the minimum Vcore to CPU ratio is 4:1. 3:1 or better is recommended. Some deployments may require 1:1 depending on complexity.

Connectivity & Port Information

Connection to Server

Required to establish an RDP connection to the dataPARC server(s) for software implementation, updates, changes & support.

Port 3389

File Sharing

Microsoft file sharing (SMB)

Required communication between clients and the dataPARC Server’s “Capstone” share. Displays, connection configuration files & update location. Used also for transferring files from dataPARC collector machine(s) to the dataPARC historian server.

Port: 135 to 139 (TCP & UDP)

Port: 445 (TCP & UDP) - Named Pipes

Display Service (Optional)

The Display Service can be optionally used as an alternative to Microsoft’s file sharing for clients to browse, view & create dataPARC displays. The Display Service does not replace all the functionality that comes with Microsoft file sharing between the client and dataPARC’s “Capstone” share. Reference the dataPARC manual to view the Display Service limitations. Please contact dataPARC support for questions: https://community.dataparcsolutions.com/nethelp/Documents/limitations.htm

Port: 2012 (customizable)

SQL Server

Required to connect the dataPARC server & clients to the dataPARC configuration databases (ctc_config, ctc_gds, ctc_security).

Port: 1433 & 1434 (TCP & UPD)

Port: 445 (TCP & UDP) - Used for Named Pipes.

DCOM

Opening DCOM ports is required for communication between the dataPARC collector and OPCDA/HDA server when using dataPARC’s OPC client on a machine separate from the OPCDA/HDA server. Communication over DCOM ports may also be required between the dataPARC server and OPCDA/HDA if dataPARC is configured to read directly from the OPCDA/HDA server (used in some implementations).

Port: Between 1024 and 65535 - Random choice.

Port: 135 (TCP & UDP) - For negotiating random ports.

CTC.NET Remoting HDA Service

Required to communicate data requests from clients to the dataPARC server.

Note: Starting in version 7.X the UA Server Service is used as the data service application. Depending on the implementation CTC.NET Remoting HDA Server service may continue to be required. One instance where continued use is required is for legacy VB6 data series connections in 7.X.

Ports: 8085 to 8284 (TCP) (customizable)

Email Alerts

Required for sending email alerts using the dataPARC PARCalarm application. One of the following email services is required to be opened between the dataPARC server and the SMTP server. SSL is recommended.

IMAP

Port: 143 Port: 993 (SSL)

POP

Port: 110 Port: 995 (SSL)

SMTP

Port: 587 Port: 465 (SSL)
