Article Summary

This information is specific to the latest release of PARCview:

7.2.x

PARCmodel is dataPARC’s process modeling tool. It utilizes both the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Projection to Latent Structures (PLS) modeling techniques. It is optimized for continuous and batch process modeling.

PARCSecurity Permissions

Users will need the 'Launch PARCmodel' role in PARCsecurity to create a PARCmodel. Users will additionally need access to tags used in the model. Individual tag access can be configured on the Permissions Tab of the UA Security Console, by selecting ‘Tags’ under the application drop down.

Configuration

To use PARCmodel, additional client configuration is needed. Under Client Configuration, and then the Trend Extensions Tab, enter the following in each column.

Menu Text = ‘PARCmodel’,

Assembly and Namespace = ‘PARCModel.dll#PARCModel.LaunchPVModel’.

Check the Enabled box, save, and then restart PARCview.

Upon the first time using PARCmodel, you may be prompted for a license to use PARCmodel. If you receive this message, please follow the licensing prompts, and send a license request to support.

Creating a PARCmodel starts with opening a Trend. You can add tags to create a model off the tags, or right click inside the trend and select the ‘PARCmodel’ option at the bottom of the menu.

  • Create New PCA Model – Creates a new PCA model based off the tags in the trend.
  • Create New PLS Model – Creates a new PCA model based off the tags in the trend.
  • Create Model from Excel – Opens a new window, with the option to select model type, process, and grade. Excel file location must be defined, along with columns and rows used.
  • Open Saved Model – Opens a previously saved model.
  • Import Models from File – Brings up a file explorer menu to import a model.
  • Export Models to File – Brings up a menu, giving options of which PARCmodel project to export.
  • Save Changes – Saves the Model.
  • Exit – Exits PARCmodel.
  • Component Selection – The number of components to include in the model, using criteria based on the type of model.
  • Process Type – Continuous or Batch. Batch requires using Run browser with a series of runs.
  • Model Options – Two interpolation settings are possible, either stepping via a tag or a manually defined step size in seconds.

Log Files

PARCmessage is a built-in error monitoring software. It creates an ongoing log of errors generated from PARCview on the specific computer where PARCmessage is running in the system tray. The Icon in the tray is a triangle, red if errors are present, and green if there are no errors.

Errors can also be stored in the PARCview install directory both on the server and clients ...\Capstone\PARCView\LogFiles.

Required Server Applications

No server applications are required to use PARCmodel.

UA Server: All PARCview vr 7 functionality requires a Universal Access (UA) server.

GDS: All PARCview vr 7 functionality requires a Global Discovery Server (GDS).
