Reasons

This information is specific to the latest release of PARCview:

7.2.x

The Reason Tree tab is used to define the various reasons that can be assigned to alarm events. The pre-configured, hierarchical structure enables consistent reporting and root-cause analysis.

PARCSecurity Permissions

PARCsecurity Console should be configured for the following permissions for rights to add and edit Alarm Reasons.

• System Config Reason/Evidence/Category - Grants access to the Reason, Evidence and Category tabs in System Configuration.
• Allow Alarm Event Edits - Enables user to modify Alarm Event, including adding a Reason to an existing Alarm Event.

Configuration

System Configuration Reason Tab allows you to set Define and Configure your Reason Alarm list.

Reason: Name of reason branch.

Assign: Checking this allows a reason to be assigned. Branches that are only used as roots for other branches and are not reasons themselves should not have Assign checked off.

Inherit: The branch will inherit categories from upper branches. This minimizes the effort when multiple branches will use the same categories in their children branches. Categories are used to filter the reason tree.

Full Reason: The Full Reason will automatically be built from the tree.

Active: Toggles the visibility of the reason and all branches of the reason in PARCview.

Log Files

PARCmessage is a build in error monitoring software. It creates an ongoing log of errors generated from PARCview on the specific computer where PARCmessage is running.

Alarm Server specific errors will be stored on the server in the PARCalarmServer install path ...\Capstone\PARCAlarmServer\LogFiles

Errors can also be stored in the PARCview install directory both on the server and clients ...\Capstone\PARCView\LogFiles

Required Server Applications

PARCAlarm Server: The server application generates Alarm events based on the Alarm Rules defined in the Alarm Configuration area.

UA Server: All PARCview vr 7 functionality requires a Universal Access (UA) server.

GDS: All PARCview vr 7 functionality requires a Global Discovery Server (GDS).
