Article summary

This information is specific to the latest release of PARCview:

7.2.x

Use the Process tab to configure the process tree and process area settings.

The process tree contains the site’s process areas. Expand and collapse the tree by clicking the “+” and “–” buttons next to the process names. Clicking a process name selects it and displays its process configuration.

The process tree has a hierarchical structure, but this is strictly organizational. In other words, there is no parent/child-type or inheritance-type functionality. Some “parent” process areas might not actually be configured for use and instead simply act as containers for logical groups of process areas.

PARCSecurity Permissions

PARCsecurity Console should be configured for the following permissions for rights to System Configuration elements.

  • DataPARC Admin: Grants administrative access to PARCview.
  • System Config Process Area: Grants access to the Process Area tab in System Configuration.
  • System Config Process Tags: Grants access to the Process Tags tab in System Configuration.
  • System Config Reason/Evidence/Category: Grants access to the Reason, Evidence and Category tabs in System Configuration.

Configuration

General: The General setup allows you to define PARCRollup Server Averages along with a few additional settings.

Grade/SKU Setup: The Process Area Grade setup allows you to assign a Grade tag for the selected Process and a separate grade tag for your PARCRollup Server.

Production Unit ID/Batch Number Setup: The product tag setup defines parameters that determine which product is being made.

Filter Tag Setup: The Filter Tag is used to determine if a process is Up or Down. In other words, the filter tag determines whether the values being collected are worth analyzing or should be removed from calculations and Alarms because they were collected when the process was not actually producing anything.

Event Reason Logbook: Use this section to configure Alarm Event integration with Logbook. When an alarm event is acknowledged from Trends or Centerlines, a corresponding Logbook entry can be created.

Process Variables: Any variable added to the Process variables list can then be automatically added a trend if a tag from this process is added to a trend. In Client Configuration window, theses Process Variables can be selected to automatically be added to any trend built for this process area. For example, if the grade and product tag are added to this list, when a tag from this process area is added to a trend, it will add the Process Variable tags as well.

Log Files

PARCMessage is a built-in error monitoring software. It creates an ongoing log of errors generated from PARCview on the specific computer where PARCMessage is running in the system tray. The Icon in the tray is a triangle, red if errors are present, and green if there are no errors.

Errors can also be stored in the PARCview install directory both on the server and clients ...\Capstone\PARCView\LogFiles.

Required Server Applications

No server applications are required to use System Configuration.

UA Server: All PARCview vr 7 functionality requires a Universal Access (UA) server.

GDS: All PARCview vr 7 functionality requires a Global Discovery Server (GDS).
