PARCtask Workflow Designer.exe Summary and Overview

This information is specific to the latest release of PARCview:

PARCtask Workflow Designer is a program used to create re-occurring tasks such as: saving screenshots of PARCview Trends and PARCgraphics, generating PARCreports from user-supplied parameters, sending emails based on specific conditions, and executing SQL scripts.

In the PARCtask Workflow Designer a preconfigured sequence of tasks or “workflow” can be created. Time-based or event-based “triggers” that cause the workflow to execute can be set. Two types of workflows exist, Designer and Scripted. The Application Edit Mode may need to be set to Advanced to view the latter.

A Designer workflow uses standard blocks to create a series of steps and viewed in the order in which they execute. The underlying code for the workflow can be viewed here but cannot be altered.

A scripted workflow allows the user to write Visual Basic to define the behavior of the task.

Both workflow types use the same Execution triggers.

PARCSecurity Permissions

PARCsecurity Console permissions will need to be set for the following to allow users the ability to open the PARCtask Workflow Designer or schedule workflows.

• Allow Workflow Edit - Allows users to run PARCtask Workflow Designer.
• Allow Workflow Schedule – Allows users to schedule workflows from PARCview.

Configuration

There are two options available in the PARCtask Workflow Designer.

• Application Edit Mode – Simple or Advanced. Only Advanced will allow script type workflows to be created/viewed/modified.
• Enable Audit Notification – Enables audit information for triggers in the Designer.

Log Files

PARCmessage is a built-in error monitoring software. It creates an ongoing log of errors generated from PARCview on the specific computer where PARCmessage is running.

Errors can also be stored in the PARCview install directory both on the server and clients ...\Capstone\PARCView\LogFiles

Required Server Applications

PARCTask Server: The server that controls workflow execution and scheduling.

PARCtaskPARCviewHost: Renders PARCview displays as images.

UA Server: All PARCview vr 7 functionality requires a Universal Access (UA) server.

GDS: All PARCview vr 7 functionality requires a Global Discovery Server (GDS).
