Excel Add-In Summary and Overview

This information is specific to the latest release of PARCview:

The dataPARC Excel Add-in includes preconfigured data query sheets, custom cell functions, and other tools for advanced data analysis. Re-usable templates for retrieval of raw or normalized data make it easy to build custom reports. Special retrieval modes for viewing manually entered data, PARCalarm event data, and PARCrollup data provide additional flexibility. The preconfigured workbook sheets perform data queries only when the button is clicked and gather the data for all tags at once. These sheets allow process data to be analyzed even when not connected to a site’s server. The Function Painter feature makes queries for current or statistical data for one or more tags. It calculates automatically and data only appears in the specified cells, which can be scaled up easily with copy and paste. 

PARCSecurity Permissions

PARCsecurity Console should be configured for the following permissions depending on the needs of the user.

• Launch PARCview - Grants access to the PARCview application.
• Tag Editor in Excel - Grants access to the Tag Editor in the Excel Add-In.
• Limit Configuration - Enables users to create or modify tag limits.
• dataPARC Admin - Grants administrative access to PARCview.

Configuration

The Add-In file, “DataPARC_AddIn.xla” is in the PARCview application folder with a standard installation of PARCview. To enable it in Excel, click File then Options. Go to the Add-Ins tab. Under the Manage drop-down menu make sure “Excel Add-ins” is selected and click Go. Check dataPARC and click OK. The DataPARC ribbon is now added to Ribbon Bar.

Log Files

PARCmessage is a built-in error monitoring software. It creates an ongoing log of errors generated from PARCview on the specific computer where PARCmessage is running.

Errors can also be stored in the PARCview install directory both on the server and clients ...\Capstone\PARCView\LogFiles

Required Server Applications

UA Server: All PARCview vr 7 functionality requires a Universal Access (UA) server.

GDS: All PARCview vr 7 functionality requires a Global Discovery Server (GDS).
