Article summary

Discrete assets are the physical instances of asset type instances, or in other words the physical assets that fill the asset positions as defined in the asset tree. For example, a motor with serial number 12345 on Machine 03 may fill the asset instance Machine03_VacuumPump08_Motor02, meaning it physically is in place in the second motor position of Vacuum Pump #08. If motor 12345 breaks and is replaced with motor 67890, motor 67890 would then fill the equipment instance MachineA_VacuumPump08_Motor02. In this sense, discrete assets are useful for tracking physical parts, while generic assets track performance agnostic of changes to the physical parts.

As of version 7.1 the discrete assets types tree and discrete assets list can be configured but not associated with other hierarchies.
